Assembly Guide

Once all of your parts are printed and cleaned up, you're ready to start putting the light together.

Before you start

  • Remove all support material and clean up the printed parts.

  • Gather the required tools and supplies.

  • Leave the small hardware in its labeled bags until you need it. It's much easier to keep track of that way.

  • Decide whether you're building the freestanding or clamping base.

✨I put together an OTL playlist with some of the music I listened to while working on the Open Task Light. Listen while you build if you want.✨

Assembly order

  1. Prepare the rails - Remove the power tracks and separate the rails.

  2. Assemble the horizontal rail - Add the LED, cooling parts, and electronics housing, then reinstall the horizontal power track.

  3. Assemble your base - Choose the freestanding or clamping version.

  4. Assemble the carriage and counterweight - Build both parts and connect them with the belt.

  5. Complete final assembly - Join the rails and install the moving parts.

  6. Power on and test - Give everything one last inspection, then connect power and test the light.
